My first visit to Barcelona was in 1999, and I traveled there by car from the Netherlands. It was a spontaneous trip without any preparation. I had a general idea of what I wanted to see, but had done little research in advance about distances, crowds, and travel time between sights. Driving in Barcelona also turned out to be a challenge due to the traffic, narrow streets, many motorcyclists, and limited and expensive on-street parking. As a result, I was able to see and do far too little during that first visit.<\/p>\n

In the years that followed, I returned to Barcelona several times, with my most recent visit in March 2025. I approached these later visits differently. I traveled by plane, made a clear plan in advance of what I wanted to see and which neighborhoods I wanted to explore, and booked tickets online. This saved a lot of time, as waiting lines of more than an hour at popular sights are not uncommon.<\/p>\n

Barcelona offers many opportunities to combine different types of activities. During a city trip, you can alternate culture and Gaud\u00ed architecture with eating in tapas bars and spending time at the beach. Personally, I find Barcelona to be a city that lends itself well to returning multiple times.<\/p>\n
