Big Ben is undoubtedly one of the most famous attractions in London. This iconic clock tower stands next to the Palace of Westminster and is considered by many visitors to be the symbol of the British capital. The bell weighs approximately 13,760 kilograms (30,336 pounds) and has chimed every hour since 1859. The Palace of Westminster is one of London’s most famous historic landmarks and the meeting place of the British Parliament. This impressive building stands on the banks of the River Thames and is instantly recognizable for its distinctive Victorian Gothic architecture and numerous towers.<\/p>\n

My tip is to join one of the free guided tours offered every 30 minutes by a Beefeater. Tower Bridge is one of London’s most famous attractions and stands right next to the Tower of London. The bridge was designed by Sir Horace Jones and Sir John Wolfe Barry. Construction began in 1886, and the bridge was officially opened in 1894. With its two distinctive towers, Tower Bridge has become one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The bridge is 244 metres (800 feet) long and features a movable central section that was specially designed to allow ships to pass along the River Thames. On average, Tower Bridge opens around 800 times a year, which works out to about twice a day. Watching the bridge lift to let a ship pass is always an impressive sight.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

My tip is not only to walk across the bridge but also to visit the high-level walkways. From the glass floor, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of the River Thames, the Tower of London, and London’s skyline. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the British monarch and one of the most famous attractions in London. Located on the edge of St. James’s Park, the palace has an impressive 775 rooms. Its magnificent fa\u00e7ade and the large square in front attract thousands of visitors every day.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During the summer months, several of Buckingham Palace’s State Rooms are open to the public, giving visitors a glimpse inside one of the world’s most famous palaces. Even if you don’t plan to tour the interior, it’s definitely worth taking a walk past the palace.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Many visitors come specifically to see the Changing of the Guard. This traditional ceremony usually takes place in the morning and is free to watch. The London Eye is one of the most popular attractions in London. From this giant observation wheel, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the city and see many of London’s famous landmarks from a completely different perspective. Especially on a clear day, a ride on the London Eye is an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The observation wheel was designed by architects David Marks and Julia Barfield. Construction began in 1998, and the London Eye stands 135 metres (443 feet) tall. Its 32 glass capsules can accommodate around 800 visitors in total. One complete rotation takes approximately 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

On a clear day, you can see for miles. From the London Eye, you’ll spot landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, and even Windsor Castle in the distance. My tip is to book your tickets in advance and, if possible, choose a ride around sunset. Piccadilly Circus is one of London’s most famous squares and is located in the heart of the West End. It is best known for its giant digital advertising screens and the famous Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, whose statue is often referred to as the Eros Fountain. Both during the day and in the evening, the square has a lively and vibrant atmosphere.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Surrounding Piccadilly Circus, you’ll find countless shops, restaurants, theatres, and cinemas. From the square, it’s also easy to walk to other well-known locations, such as Leicester Square, Chinatown, and Regent Street. This makes it an ideal place to explore or to start your visit to central London.<\/p>\n

Whenever I’m in London, I almost always pass through Piccadilly Circus. Trafalgar Square is one of London’s most famous squares and is located in the Westminster district. Built in the 19th century, the square is best known for Nelson’s Column, its four large bronze lions, and its lively atmosphere. It is a popular meeting place for both tourists and Londoners.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The square is home to the National Gallery, one of the United Kingdom’s most renowned art museums. Many visitors combine a walk across Trafalgar Square with a visit to the museum or a stroll towards Piccadilly Circus, Westminster, or Covent Garden.<\/p>\n

I personally think Trafalgar Square is one of the best starting points for a walking tour of London. The current cathedral was built from 1675 onwards to a design by Sir Christopher Wren after the previous church was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. Its magnificent dome has been a defining feature of London’s skyline for centuries.<\/p>\n

The cathedral has played an important role in British history. It hosted the funeral of Winston Churchill in 1965, and in 1981, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married here. Today, more than two million people visit this remarkable landmark each year.<\/p>\n
