It was impressive to experience the history of the Catholic Church so tangibly, with tombstones dating back to the earliest popes. The simplicity of the surroundings made the experience all the more impressive.

However, one downside was that the caves are quite small and narrow, so it was sometimes difficult to look around quietly without feeling too crowded. Arrive early or late in the day

The Vatican Grottos can get crowded, especially during high season. We recommend going early in the morning or later in the afternoon so you have more time to quietly view the tombs and artwork.

2. Wear comfortable shoes

The caves are underground and the paths can be narrow and uneven. Comfortable shoes are a must for easy walking around and exploring the area.

3. Pay attention to opening hours

The Vatican Grottos are open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please note that they may be closed during special celebrations or papal events, so always check the times in advance.

Special offers for a city trip to Rome

Are you planning a city trip to Rome Rome and want to visit the main sights and attractions?
